Message from the Principal

Chantry Island Sign G. C. Huston.jpgDear Parent(s)/Guardian(s):

I am pleased and excited to announce to you that the new principal beginning September 2010 will be Dan Russell, and he is currently a principal in Owen Sound. Mr. Russell is looking forward to coming to G. C. Huston Public School and working with the school community.

I wish to thank the students, staff, parents and the community of G.C. Huston Public School for the warm welcome I received upon my arrival in February. It has been my pleasure to get to know the students and their families of this school, and I have made many friendships which will last a life time. The staff are terrific and very dedicated to providing the best education for students in their care.  There are many wonderful and unique programs at this school which Iím sure you are all very proud of.

Recently G. C. Huston Public School was designated as a ìHealthy Schoolî. To earn this we have demonstrated our desire to become healthier by creating a climate where health is our focus. Some of the things we have done to promote this are: our Lunch Program with healthy foods, daily physical education for all students, lots of choices for activities during recesses, sports teams and clubs, and an effort towards litter less lunches.  We have also just been designated as an ìECO schoolî, the only school within the Bluewater District to receive this designation. To accomplish this we have done the following: Community Gardens Project, Lunch Program, reduction in our waste through a waste audit, clean up a the neighbourhood on Earth Day, our proposal for an outdoor classroom, reduction in energy consumption by turning off lights and computers when not in use. All of these actions certainly demonstrate respect and responsibility to our environment.

The last day of school is Tuesday, June 29, and the first day of school for next year is Tuesday, September 7, 2010.
Have a safe and happy summer everyone!!
Mrs. Susan Sankey, Principal

Class Placements for 2010-2011

Staffing and classroom organization discussions for next school year are well underway in our school.   However, we would like you to know that changes can occur in our plans that may result in a re-organization during September.    As for all students in Bluewater District School Board, placement in classes during the full month of September is considered tentative and is subject to change while the school’s final enrolment is determined.  Therefore, there is potential for your child to have a change in their classroom or teacher after school begins.    The changes will hopefully be completed by early October.
Class placements will be available on September 7th, 2010.
Thank you for your understanding and trust in our professional decisions with regard to the education of your children, our students.   It is greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,
Susan Sankey
